PERSONAL ESSAY
The day of my mother’s funeral service was the last day of my summer classes. As we drove her to the cemetery, we were all surrounded with endearment, distress and sorrow. It’s like a piece of my soul was literally broken in half as it had finally hit me that she was gone forever. It seemed to me that God’s decision to let her go was something that I had to swallow and go through for the rest of my life. He called her home to a place where angels are flying and watching over us. In good spirit as I continue to rise above, earn my degree, and make my mom smile at me in heaven, so I know she tells me that I am doing a great job. When she died, I started wondering about how my life was going to be without her and how I would be able to live on my own. I am the only daughter in a Haitian family of two sons−the only daughter who checked up on her when no one else was there. Being her only daughter allowed me to think, and reflect on how I wanted to prepare for my future. Being her only daughter made me more independent and made me realize that there is a lot to be grateful for. I never failed to spend quality time with her because she always made me feel like I was not alone. She knew that I had a prosperous life ahead of me.

Tolerance Tolerance is the acceptance people get from this society that makes us who we are We can't let discrimination stop us from a place that might take us very far. Tolerance is what we all need to give back to one another in a way that we are treated differently or equally We must not control everything that another person accepts. Tolerance is justice that the world needs all the fighting, gossiping, violence trouble making should not be taken place in this crazy world. Tolerance is respect that we must earn Let's be tolerant of what we see in the eye of others let's not judge what we see in the outside but who the person is on the inside. Tolerance is making people know that they have what it takes to make this world safe and life changing. Tolerance is making a difference Believing that we were born alone We die alone and also stand alone. THE TRUTH Think before you act who I am doesn't determine my past what I do must make a big impact Don't judge me I am a mirror that could break I wouldn't be who I set to be if I didn't make mistakes. Keep your self at pace Just know that life is not a race I am not to be mistaken by a witch Only fake friends come and switch. Matter fact life is a prize no need to hide my face under any disguise If only my presence was a surprise. I wouldn't be who I wanted to be Can't just knock off my dreams to be a killer bee. to step in a garden looking for a pile of seeds drinking a sip of tea. CARRY YOUR HEART When you left this Earth It’s like a piece of me left, too. There is no other mother like you. You were a diamond pearled with love; To those around you, They felt your loving spirit. Your soul will always carry on with God himself, You shed a light in any room you stepped into, As you sleep in the kingdom of heaven With peace and harmony. Nobody can ever replace you- May your heart be lifted with glory, May your soul be purified with clear water. INDEPENDENCE As Americans, we faced obstacles:- fighting to gain independence, Like an atomic bomb is approaching the horizon Just trying to make our dreams come true. Actions speak louder than words MLK had a dream, But we have one, too. We will follow the lead. We will cross paths. We may all have come from a dark place. Asking for God’s Forgiveness Lord, forgive me for all of my sins I give myself to you For whom I know You’ll cherish me forever. I am holy in your name Because you said so Only you have my heart at this very moment. You are the air that I breathe. Nature Here we all are surrounded by trees we feel the breeze on the ground there is a vibrant of green leaves outside there go a dog barking. the gates are open people wonder if it will bite. hold on tight. it ain't nothing like Mother nature. We are all made as God's creatures, nothing on paper. bring cats around later. we'll have something on to cater. we may follow the nature of God; the beautiful nature that he created. we could only be blessed. John says "through him all things were made" or "but ask the animals and they'll teach you or the birds in the sky and they'll tell you or speak to the earth" in nature we were all made by birth. we were not made under the dirt. smell the nature that is out there like it is your own. Depression Depression is a feeling that have two legs The legs move as you could hear your heart beating The depression gets close to our afternoon days of worriness unfulfilled depression closes in on us when it gets trapped by villaines; depression is like getting rid of chemicals. It appears to explode and far too close to snow. it gets further to the sky as you feel the clouds are about to surface a different direction. You opened a chain of depression. what more can I do? Today, depression is being treated all around the world. let us get better. SPACE No matter where you are or where you're from, you have to give my space it's not like I'm ready to be on a airplane and watch people up in the sky through space no need to compete for a race not everyone has the same case you can look at my face and see that I need nothing but you and my space how about we go to KFC to get a bit of taste? they say you may eat at my own pace. I don't have time to waste. it's nothing to worry about even if we're apart or at the same base. but please. As simple has been said give my my space. you're safe and you would see anyone using a maze or going after the money they'd chase remember everything won't go how you want it. there's a lot to gaze but I turn the other way. one day we'll be in space and play no games. Love God with your all We must love God purely with all of our strength He wants all of us to win He does not expect anyone to sin. We must love God with all of our minds and learn how to be kind There's nothing like spending your time likewise than to drink a bottle of wine Love God with all of your soul like you're eating a full meal on a bowl It's like drinking a dose of Tylenol. God does not want us to be in rage We grow up in a different stage God loves to see us being touched by his grace Life can be a hard thing to face Loving God is like magic Don't forget to do something fantastic There's nothing free and automatic. BRAIDED ESSAY My father has never had a urgent medical emergency before. The thought of him having an IV stuck to his arms made me sick to my stomach. My father already lost his mother eleven years ago. His love and support for the family is something that could never go unnoticed. When he was hospitalized, my loved ones, neighbors, and family were praying for him to get better. They were able to vent to him about their problems or talk about life in general. My dad was as strong as a warrior. Throughout the course of his day, he would tell his friends who lived near him jokes that would make them laugh. In some days, he would go outside and cook grilled barbecue, especially on national holidays. STORIES No More Pain Angelina Washington suffered an indescribable loss in her family. Her 28 year old son, Michael had died from a motorcycle accident. While he was riding it, he lost balance and control of it and ended up with scratches, spots and bruises all over his body. Everything was just flashing before his eyes. He had a scar on his left leg. People who were driving by saw him and called the ambulance to pick him up. They witnessed fire coming out of the motorcycle. They parked their car and walked up to Michael to see what was wrong with him. When the ambulance arrived, they picked him up and put him on a white stretcher. By the time he reached the hospital, doctors were checking his blood pressure and then took him to a different room. A nurse came to see him and noticed all the bruises that he had. He couldn't take the pain. Doctors used an X-ray to see if he had torn a muscle. Luckily, he didn't but the pain he had was still unbearable. He got so bad that doctors decided to put him on life support. He had had bandages covering up the Mark's he had on his arms and legs. He couldn't even move his right toe. His eyes were half closed as he was trying to sleep. His head was swelled up. He had ice by his neck. A week later, he died on a Tuesday night around 7:30 PM. His family decided to have Michael's funeral two weeks later. They had to wear all black, so they went shopping to get what they needed. Once the day of the funeral arrived, Michael's uncle, Ronald who was also Angelina's brother held her hand and walked with her. Her eyes were drooling and welling up with puppy tears. When she saw him resting on the casket, she screamed and fell on the floor. She nearly passed out, so her brother gave her a bottle of water. He and others helped her get up and found a seat to sit on afterwards. Michael cousins, Ronald and Andre gave her some tissue. It couldn't have gotten any worse than this. After the funeral was over, everyone who was there was on their way to the cemetery. At the cemetery, everyone got to observe his face on the casket one last time before they closed it. They all spread roses and flowers around the casket before it got wheeled down six feet under. This time Michael's friends and family surrounded themselves around Angelina in case something happened. She began to choke when she screamed aloud again. Everyone knew her pain and understood how close she was with all of her children. He left behind two sisters, Angelique and Angela, brother, Terell Washington as well as his father, Phillip Washington. They put their heads down, swallowed all the emotional pain in and realized that they were going to have to deal with his death for the rest of their life. Sure, it wasn't going to be the same but they had to stay strong for Michael. They knew that Michael would have envisioned the whole family doing great things in honor of him. They had nothing, but memories and videos that they shared with Michael. They filled his empty void with celebration, especially on his birthday. They had a bonfire outside and showed other people pictures of him with them in family gatherings. Nothing mattered more than watching the family gather together and fulfill a wonderful life. "See you later, Mike!" Angelique said, waving her hands up in the air. She was praying that she could reach the sky one day. Plan Out Lesson It was just an ordinary day for Carla. There were other students beside herself who took the bus to go to school. Sometimes the bus driver, Carol, took too long to pick up students. She decided to drive the bus an hour and a half earlier, so that the students could arrive at their school on time. Once they got to school, they got out of the bus and started greeting each other. Carla had a notebook that she kept in her bag. She knew that she had a lot of goals that she wanted to accomplish for herself. When she felt like writing something, she laid her notebook on the table before class began. Ms. Springfield assigned different groups. Carla was sent to the reading table, where she had to pick out a book and read it for twenty minutes. She wrote a summary about the book on paper, which took her about four minutes. She didn't get to turn to the last page she was on after paraphrasing the beginning of the book. She went back to her seat. She had put her notebook away and did assignments on her workbook. Her classmates were working on the assignment together and Carla chose to chime in. Through group work, the students were able to interact with one another. She double checked to see if she had her name written in front of the book. Luckily, she did. Ms. Springfield took a glance at her agenda to see what else she had planned for the day. She made changes in case everything couldn't be done in just one day. She wrote down homework that she assigned for her students on the board. Carla always did all of them. She pat herself on the back. After she completed all of her work, she would play outside and hang out with her neighbors, sister Valerie and brother, Shawn outside. Happiness was a glittering light for her. Valerie could see the sparkling glow that Carla had showcased on her face. She shared a sea of smiles whenever she got around her friends, family members, and neighbors. If she did not understand her homework assignment, then she would ask her oldest sister, Simone to help her. "Please remember that I won't do your work for you, you hear," Simone insisted. "If you do it, I'll give you some pop tarts or buy you something for the holidays," Carla said. "It's okay if I don't, I don't need a pop tart full of sugar," Simone said, clapping back. She gave Carla a mint, gum to chew on and a necklace that she bought two weeks prior. "You can tell me what you like," Carla said. Carla wanted to give her sister something that they knew a female would want to purchase. When that time came, she asked her mom, Bianca, for some money. She thought about surprising Simone but chose to go shopping with her to get what she wanted. Out of the kindness of her heart, she made a plan to buy something for Simone the following year. It was just another day and endless night for Carla to endure. She learned to make the best out of something nice to happen and that's exactly what she did. "You're on top of the world," her sister Valerie chanted. All the applause goes to Carla Williams. Make The Thoughts Count Keisha Allen admitted that she was an angry bird during her first year in college. Her anger diffused-in a way that people can't imagine her being. Her parents didn't make things any better, but they were still there to support her. It's like they were stuck in a puzzle that couldn't be figured out. All they knew was that she needed professional help. She felt like her mind was going to explode at any moment. Her mom, Casey and sister, Linda were researching different places that she could go to. They came across a place called Citrus Health Network Inc. A week later, Casey took her daughter there to meet with a mental health professional. They did not offer psychological assessments, but they did recommend her to go to Banyan Health Systems to meet with a therapist within two months, psychologists Monica Rae James suggested that she take a psychological test for the next three months. They noticed that Keisha came to all of her appointments on time. She paid $375 for the assessment with the help of her sister, Linda who was working at Burger King. She was doing tons of activities and told Monica some of the aspects that she endured throughout her life while growing up. After four long months, she figured that she had PTSD and depression. She recalled a time when her father, Tom Allen used to try to rape her at the age of six. She neglected him and wanted to push him away from her. As she got older, he resented himself and worked on creating a better relationship with one another. "Sweett, I regret doing those things to you," Tom said. It felt good to her that she was break free and did not have to worry about her dad still controlling and assaulting her behind closed doors. He used to tell Keisha to take out her clothes in front of him. He also told her to eat dinner or lunch at the times he wanted to. A part of her wanted him dead at that time, but she just couldn't do anything. Her instinct told her "No, don't do it." Her mom wasn't pleased with his behavior then, so she filed for divorce. It was finalized a year later. She had soon installed cameras in the house. He faced seven and a half years in prison. When he got out, he started to be embarrassed with what he had done in the past. He didn't want any man treating any of her daughters like that. He came home and decided to make things work with Casey, but first he had to prove to her that he was serious about chanting for the better. There were no more complaints about his past behaviors from Keisha. He used to go outside and see her jump rope and run on the sidewalks. Casey and Tom got married again three years later. He hated having to mop the floor everyday, night, and clean up the mess in the bathroom. He got sent to Boot camp for a month before he got released. All of the anger and frustration Keisha was feeling stemmed from those drastic moments. She took her pills and was able to make the best out of every situation when she met with her therapist, Kimberely Rose. She was learning to cope with what she went through and used them as a way to outweigh her strengths. Her advice has prompted her to look at the big picture and made closure with her father. She also came to realize that college was not for her in the long run after almost completing her sophomore year. As a result, she withdrew herself from Florida Career College. The rest of her life was becoming quite refreshing. She went kayaking a few times with her sisters, Linda, Morgan, Gloria and her brothers Kirk and Javon. She kept herself more occupied by painting and going on road trips to Puerto Rico, Cuba, Nicaragua, Haiti, Bora Bora, Hawaii, Dominican Republic, Asia, Mexico and several other countries. Life has a way of explaining itself. It gets better on it's own. With everything she went through, she was a warrior. She knew that her mother had her back through thick and thin. Her dad continued to make up for his past sins by surprising her with presents during the holidays. What more can she ask for? Everything in her life was finally perfect in her eyes. At least for now. Mail Alert Gone Wrong Marvin stared out the window as he watched a big white dog eating up a 54 year old woman by the head and ear. He called his brother, Cameron who was in a room next to him. It seemed like the dog had bit up a toy. From the corner of Cameron's eyes, he could see blood coming out of her scalp. The lady was screaming for mercy. Too bad she couldn't pick up her phone to dial. It was in her pocket. Hoping that the dog didn't rip up her clothes, she was defenseless. Once Marvin and Cameron had examined what was happening, they called their big sister, Yolanda to take a close look. She couldn't quite believe it, but it was a true reality. She panicked and opened her mouth. She blurted out "Oh my goodness, Are you serious?". She dialed 911. No one was outside but the lady and the dog. As she waited for the police to come, she was watching Divorce Court. The police arrived forty five minutes later and grabbed a gun to shoot the dog with. They pointed it through the dog's direction three times. The dog hopped and ran towards their owner's house. It also barked so loud that the owner, Max Daniel's woke up from his sleep. He opened the door and had put the dog inside with a leash that the dog couldn't chew up. The police came up to him. "Hello, sir,Is this your dog?"the policemen asked. "Yes", the owner Max said. "In case you didn't know, your dog came and bit this lady who's on the ground," the policemen answered. "Oh really? I didn't know," the owner Max replied. He immediately grabbed a cage and put the dog inside of it. He then locked the cage so that the dog couldn't get out of it. The dog was no longer outside. "Thank you for letting me know," Max said to the police, giving him a firm handshake. He did not know where the gunshots were coming from. The ambulance came five minutes later and put the lady on the stretcher. She was on her way to the hospital. All she wanted to do was mail things over to different houses. The lady laid down flat as she felt like her life was over. Tears were drooping down her cheeks. She couldn't move as much. The lady gave one of the passengers her card. They found out that the lady's name was Naomi who wore a gray suit with black leather shoes on. By the time she got to the hospital, the doctors checked her weight and blood pressure. She was having her blood test/lab work done. Then, she met with a surgeon named Anthony Brown who observed her through an X-ray. Things weren't going so good. She had to undergo several surgeries within the next few weeks. After she underwent surgery, she was on her way to recovery. She made sure that she continued to go to her future doctor appointments to see how much she was healing. She did not start working again until five years later. She began to be more aware of her surroundings no matter where she went. She also had someone she knew named Ramon come with her anywhere she went to keep her safe. She thought to herself Thank God I survived. Thank you Jesus! Adjectives, Repetitions and Pronouns Ten years ago, a school teacher named Jennifer Walkins was hired at Allapattah Middle School. In her spare time, she regularly visited young children who were patients at Nicklaus Children's Hospital. She assisted them with their homework. She also provided snacks to them after she finished helping them. Some of the children were not feeling well enough to return back to school, so they rested and ate at the hospital. All of the children were waiting for the day for them to get discharged. One day, someone requested Mrs. Walkins to visit an eight year old named Nathaniel. The nurses gave her Nathaniel's hospital and room number. In the afternoon, she would bring games for him and the other patients to play. Another teacher across the room, Carrie Samuel's, who was asked to teach ten to twelve years old adjectives, repetitions, and pronouns. Mrs. Walkins wanted to chime in, but she had to set all of her eyes on Nathaniel all day long. Luckily, she was doing her job right. She wanted to make sure that she attended to his needs at any time. After Nathaniel played games with others on the tables, he had Mrs. Walkins help him with adjectives and pronouns. But first, she had to give him a whole lecture by finding a board to write on. He began to understand adjectives more than he knew about pronouns. Knowing repetitions was like a breeze and a piece of cake for him. He paused and took a break once lunch was ready. He felt like he wanted to spit out the food that they had. Lord knows that he hated broccoli and was forced to swallow and gallop it.He drank a lot of water afterwards. As he was beginning to catch up, he received a necklace as a gift. "Thank you so much!" he said to Mrs. Walkins. "My pleasure," she responded. He smiled and wrapped it around his neck. She could see him blushing, even if he was trying to hide it. After a long day of spending valuable time with Nathaniel, she gave him treats while lecturing. It's only if he got the answers right. He did of course. At that moment, he thought about chewing gum. The examples couldn't get any easier than it was. She left the room as soon as they had put away the games. This reminded him of the toys that he got at his home. Sadly, he couldn't bring them. She went home and reflected upon the experience that she was having. Things could only get better with time and growth. And that's exactly what transpired. She couldn't wait to mention this to her fellow students. She took a shower and brushed her teeth. "Thank you, Jesus!" she said bowing down her head before she went to bed. All is well for her. "What a day!" she added. A Day of Easter Tiffany Sanders took her family on a three week vacation to Detroit, Michigan. They were also planning to go to New Jersey within the next three months. They were all looking forward to a wonderful trip together. Tiffany had a hard time sleeping a few days before she drove to Michigan. She ended up sleeping during the day, so her husband DeAndre Sanders cooked breakfast and lunch. Once Tiffany woke up, she hopped out of her bed and took a shower before she went to the kitchen to cook dinner. On the following day, she had set up a timer for her to wake up at 5:30 AM and go to sleep at 9:30 PM. Once her sleeping schedule got back to normal, she, her hubby and their children Savannah and Justin Sanders were packing up their belongings before heading on their way to another state. It only took them one day to get from Miami Gardens to Detroit. While they were on their way, they looked outside and saw a lake nearby. At that time, she was driving on the expressway. Savannah closed her eyes for a second as she started to dream and imagine seeing mermaids swimming below an ocean. She opened her bag and ate oranges. However, Justin decided to eat grapes. He didn't eat potatoes in his bowl until Tiffany paused her car at the gas station. While DeAndre got up to pump some gas, he came across an old friend of his name Derek Henderson who was just getting out of work. They exchanged numbers, had a brief conversation about what they've been up to, their family and where they were going. Justin ate peanuts before he ate the potatoes. He threw the oranges away. After they put enough gas in their car, they got in the automobile and left. Tiffany recalled a time when her father Tedward James took her to Hallandale Beach and taught her how to swim. She couldn't believe that she saw a stranger holding a small tank with tiny fishes scrolling around the water. Tiffany told Justin that she wanted to go to an aquarium once they got back to Miami Garden. He agreed and took her there two months later with the kids. Justin and Savannah listened to music for a consecutive six hours. Tiffany honked her car in order to wake them up. They arrived at McDonalds. They ate biscuits, chicken nuggets, burritos and burgers with tomatoes on the top while they were there. DeAndre paid for all of the full course meals. They finished eating in ten minutes. They fell right to sleep once they got in the car. They arrived in Michigan within the next 12 hours. Justin and his sister were already awake before they got there. They snooped on their phones and played games on it. As they arrived at their aunt Chloe's house, they had all gone to the back of the car. They carried food into her house. They dialed her number. She picked up, hung up and opened the door. Since it was the weekend, Savannah chose to go to church with her brother and father while her mom and aunt were arranging plans on what they should cook for Easter. Tiffany and Chloe asked Savannah to cook with them the following morning at 4 AM. Justin and his dad were sleeping. Chloe's son, Jacob opened the door with his keys. He called his mother aloud as he walked in. Once he noticed that Chloe was in the kitchen, he saw her and Tiffany. He hugged both of them. Chloe told him that his cousins were currently in the house. He didn't talk to them until the next day. He walked to his bedroom and saw Justin sleeping. He took off his clothes and grabbed his towel before taking a shower. He then went to bed and slept right next to Justin. Tiffany, Savannah and Chloe finished cooking within four hours. They took a shower for about 9 minutes before they woke the fellas up. They were all dressed up and made sure they ate something before leaving. Once it was almost 11 AM, Chloe and the family were on their way to church. When they got to church, Pastor Paul Wilson Joseph was preaching about Jesus' resurrection. The whole audience opened up their Bible and turned to John 20. In John 20 verse 23, it says: "If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained." He then discussed the reality of baptism. Savannah and Justin couldn't wait to be baptized one day. The day just didn't come yet. Only God knows when the right time will come. They just have to be ready. When the pastor Pauk was done talking, Reverend Scott Thomas asked a church member named Deshawn to pass out small cups with juice to the audience. Another church member named Natalie passed crackers around to everyone. Before Mr. Thomas closed his eyes and prayed, he read 1 Corinthians 11 verse 2 through 9. As soon as he was done praying, everyone opened their eyes and ate the crackers along with the juice. Church member Sebastian picked up the cups and threw them in the garbage. When church service was over, they went to the back of the church to get some eggshells with candy and other treats inside of it to put in their basket. Justin and his family offered people at the church food that they cooked earlier. They brought the remaining food back home. However, their belly was so full. They went home and noticed that their neighbor, Micheka, was having an egg hunt and Easter party at her house. Tiffany went inside and ate half of the macaroni, bread and chicken with sauce. They threw the plates away when they were done eating. The rest of the food was put inside the refrigerator. Justin and Savannah had brought an extra plate for everyone to gallop later on during the day. Savannah, and the other ladies took a shower and brushed their teeth before they went to bed. Unfortunately, Justin and Jacob stayed the whole night and devoured all of Micheka's food. Saving up a plate was the last thing on their minds. Luckily, everyone's Easter went exceptionally well. It couldn't have been any better. Justin felt like the day wasn't going to end. He and Jacob were playing video games with Micheka's son Isaac Turner. There were no complaints-just a fabulous time with the family. Nothing else mattered. A Day of Easter Tiffany Sanders took her family on a three week vacation to Detroit, Michigan. There were no complaints-just a fabulous time with the family. Nothing else mattered. Help the Sick People Even though Kyla's brother, Marcus was certain that their father, John William's would be alright. Kyla was worried about his condition. Her husband, Jean, was out of town, so he couldn't be there. As Kyla was on her way to the hospital, she called Jean and gave him updates on how John was feeling. When she got there, she walked to the front desk with Marcus, and they found out where he was. She looked for her dad and noticed that he was half asleep as they entered the room. A doctor came in and introduced herself. She told them that they were filling him up with liquid. The doctors were giving him more tests to see if he was diagnosed with a disease that he wasn't aware of. The results came back a few weeks later. They discovered that his diagnosis was not curable. It also appeared that he was going deaf, so they gave him a hearing aid. He wasn't stable enough yet to go home until two months later. His follow-up appointments were every two to three weeks. He didn't really talk much, but he was able to eat and sleep well. They made sure that the hearing aid stayed on his ears. The minute his hands were on his ears, Kyla had put his hand down. He then had his hands on the hospital bed. When it was time to go back to the hospital, Kyla noticed her sister, Marie's friend, MariahKay who worked as a nurse practitioner. Kyla called her from a far distance. MariahKay turned around quickly and was like "Hey, how are you? What are you doing here?" "My dad isn't feeling so well," Kyla confirmed. "What's the matter, dear?" MariahKay asked, scratching her head. "He was vomiting a lot and felt like his legs were paralyzed. "Sorry, I did not know that." "I thought you knew." Mariahkay gave her a hug and asked where Marie was. "At work," Kyla replied. "Tell her to call me when she's off." "Alright, but anyways, how is your husband, Robert and the kids doing?" "They're doing good. My son Daniel is off to law school. My other son, Johnathan, is working at Footlocker. My daughter, Kristy, is just finishing up her undergraduate career at FIU. She's going to grad school at FAU after this." "I'll make sure to pass by and see John when I am not too busy." "Perfect!" Kyla said giving MariahKay the current room number. "That's great to hear, make sure you invite me to the graduation," she added. "Deal! That's a promise." In two minutes, the doctor called and said that they didn't think they could help him. They transported him to another hospital, which was about twenty minutes away. They sent a referral there. The doctors at the other hospital gave him medicine to take. They advised him to eat healthy food, so that it could give him energy. They suggested he take long walks. Having a heart disease was no joke. It was something that he was going to have to deal with for the rest of his life until he was six feet under. John was sitting down crying like there was no hope for him. He asked,"Why me?" He thought that he had diabetes, but he didn't. He recalled losing his brother, Darryl from kidney failure almost six years ago. He thought that he wasn't going to survive for too long. Kyla signed him up for disability, so that he could get assistance regarding social security. Luckily, he did and Kyla stayed at the hospital with him the whole time. He wanted to take off his wrist band but Kyla told him "No." Marcus came in a few minutes later after he checked in with the front desk. Ten months later, he had two strokes and a seizure. By the time he got back to the hospital, he couldn't hold his head straight. It seemed like he was almost about to lose his vision too, since he didn't know where to go. Marcus and Kyla took him to the eye doctor that same day, but everything looked okay. The optometrist said that his eyes were fine. He just needed to put eye drops whenever his eyes were itching. For the next seven months, he was getting worse a little bit. The doctors revealed that it was best for him to be at a nursing home. While he was in the nursing home, his eyes were constantly closed. It seemed like he didn't know where he was. Marie's friend came by and held each other's hands as she began to pray. They closed their eyes and prayed along with her. That's all they could do at the moment. He laid down on the bed and died three months later. They couldn't tell what the cause was at that time, so they asked for him to get an autopsy. Marcus assumed that his dad was having either a cardiac arrest, a heart problem or hypertension. Since John had life insurance, Kyla and the whole family were gathering up their plans for John William's funeral. His death reminded everyone to spend valuable time with their family and that tomorrow wasn't promised. They knew that they couldn't predict the future, but they could prepare for a better tomorrow. Kyla's hubby, Jean, came back home that week and decided to make some arrangements. He also chose to attend the viewing. Kyla showed him videos of John at the hospital. It was hard for them to adjust to his loss. It was like the last day of their lives. Everything was different without John in their presence. However, Kyla and her relatives stayed strong, while they were grieving together. "Everything is gonna be okay, no worries," Jean said comforting Kyla and Marcus. "It's not goodbye, but see you later," Kyla and Marie said at the same time. Everyone who met him shared their emotions and feelings about John knowing that he brought so much positivity into all of their lives. "He'll greatly be missed," his neighbor Ashanti said, using a napkin to wipe away her tears. John's friends, Roger, Tyrell, and Dillon were singing "The Blessing" at the funeral. Kyla was touched by their voice as they were singing. Family is forever. God got him now. "Best believe he's in a better place now," Jean said with tears running towards his mouth. They left everything in God's hands celebrating John's legacy with their friends and family. They not only showed how much courage that it took to show up, but they had the strength to keep the memories that they had with John alive. New Bundle Joy of Daughters There is something special about giving birth to a new human being on this Earth. Fifteen years ago, Cindy Rose Noel looked down to see her newborn daughter Rosa Noel for the very first time. She laid on her belly flat with a towel around her. Cindy was stuck to the umbilical cord until her fiance Bobby Dill Noel cut it. At that moment, Cindy was attached to Rosa like glue. Bobby pulled their daughter close to her. When it was time for Rosa to take a bath, Cindy's other daughter Reign Noel had brought clothes for Rosa to wear. She was just perfect to look at. She almost thought that Rosa had the Jackson toe until she took a quick glimpse at her feet. Cindy couldn't wait to spoil her and brush/moisturize her hair. Touching her hair softly felt like snow drifting on her hand. She even remembers touching a crystal and going home with it after she bought it. She gave Rosa milk everyday. Breastfeeding her was never a question. Looking back, creating two daughters was a huge blessing and miracle brought upon this planet. She was literally the best at what she did. No one on this Earth could ever question her parenting skills. Luckily, she never had to file child support either. As Rosa got older, Bobby took her to school and picked her up at 2:30 PM. Cindy helped her with homework whenever she could. If she didn't have time, then Reign would assist her in a very silent spot. After pushing Rosa out during birth, she felt like having two daughters was enough for her. If she wanted another child, then she would consider doing a surrogate. She didn't have to worry about her breast being sore or having pregnancy complications. It was worse than her being on her menstrual cycle. She was scared of facing pain. She couldn't take a baby kicking inside her stomach. She gave her children nutritious food. No wonder they came out healthy when Cindy was giving birth. Mother nature was doing her justice. When it was National Daughters Day, all three of them dressed the same. They took pictures with their lovely dress on. Not only did they use a camera on their phone, they went to a photoshoot that was closest to their home. Womanhood looked stunning on them. Rosa and Reign could not have asked for a better mom. When they both were in their 20s, they started doing everything on their own. They didn't need their mother taking care of them all the time. They reached the point where they were able to support themselves financially by going to school and their workplace. Motherhood hasn't always been easy, but they gave an applause to those mothers who take time to be with their kids. No deadbeats were allowed to celebrate something they weren't dedicated to. Cindy saw a piece of herself in her daughters and couldn't be any more proud of the women they were becoming. Cindy has molded them to be young superwomen. There was nothing that she could take from it. All she knew was that being a parent was a full time job. Best believe it! Pain of Grief You should always take care of yourself. Eat healthy. Drink water. Exercise. Brush your teeth. Take your medications. Go to the doctor. Get vaccinated. Make sure you get checked. No one likes to experience grief either. To face death, to watch someone you know on a casket is so painful. To see people crying and checking over someone's death is heart wrenching. Definitely daunting to say the most. Going to a funeral would leave your loved ones with nothing but a drop of tears. It feels good to be alive, but feels much worse to see a patient in pain. Some of us have enough gratitude to stay with our loved ones when we're at a low point in our lives. Even when we go through a rough patch in our life, our family members tend to be there to support us. Janet Smith was an attractive young lady with a ribbon and beans on her hair. She enjoyed taking her younger siblings to the playground. They would even practice swimming lessons together. When she was ten years old, she wanted to learn how to cook and wash clothes. She also made it a habit to get her hair done when needed. When she turned fifteen, she started to go to doctor appointments on her own. Her mother Natasha Grace David-Smith had just had a stroke, so she was left at home with her siblings and father Clark Joseph Smith. They went to school, got home and ate before they visited her at the hospital. Her dad cooked for them, while they were in school. During the weekends, Clark would drive his children to their grandmother Miracle's house while he was at work. Once he departed from his job, he told his mother that she should come to the hospital with them later on. Before they got in a whip, she had brought soup for her daughter in law to devour. Three days later, Natasha was sent back home. She rested the whole night and woke up in the middle of the day with food already served on the stove. She felt like a baby being put to sleep. Clark already brang the food to her with the help of Janet and her older sister, Britney. Once Natasha was done eating, Britney would come and braid her hair. She was gaining nearly 30 pounds, so Clark had put her on a diet. In about six months, she lost 28 pounds. Her blood pressure started to reduce. It got back to normal when they took her outside to exercise. She began to pass out within two days, so they were able to hurry up and transport her to the hospital again. Before she arrived, she had another stroke, while she was sitting in the backseat of the car. She felt like she was out of breath, so Clark gave her some water. Clark had paused the car for a second and called the ambulance. They came by, checked her blood pressure and had her lay down on a stretcher as they were on their way. Clark drove back home and waited until the next day to see her. She stayed at the hospital much longer than she did before. By the time she was discharged, Clark picked her up and thought it was best to leave her at Miracle's household with her husband Jake Oscar Smith. Janet, her dad Clark and siblings came by to see her 3 days a week. They gave her oranges, grapes, salad and watermelon without seeds in it. They gave her water and healthy food. Miracle bathed her, dressed her up and made sure that she didn't consume food that had so much salt and sugar. She took her temperature and blood pressure. She stayed at their home until Janet died three months later before she arrived at the emergency room. Police officers came by to get her. They took her to a funeral home for the moment. They were gathering information about her before the family began to make arrangements. Janet, Britney, Michael, Xavier and Whitney cried on their dad's shoulder. Michael, Xavier and Whitney already had their own family that they created. Therefore, they weren't able to see their mother everyday at the hospital. Clark hugged them and was holding his tears in. Unfortunately, the tears came out. He needed a napkin to wipe his nose. He just couldn't believe that he just lost the love of his life in the blink of an eye. They were married for 19 years. It was hard to see that God had let her go, but then they realized that it was her time. They just had to accept that and move forward with their lives. They were getting used to the adjustment. They went shopping a week later to pick out suits or dresses to wear for the funeral. They all agreed to have the viewing and funeral three weeks after Janet's death. When they found something to wear, they would go to the fitting room and try them out. Then, they went to the cash register to pay separately. They went outside and found some flowers across the street. Once the day of the viewing and funeral was approaching, Clark was tearing. He thought about the memories that they shared, especially during her wedding anniversary. They renewed their vows when they were celebrating their tenth year being together. He found the strength to sit down in peace. However, he had to get other relatives and friends to hold their children before they coughed and dropped themselves landing on the floor. They hated to face the fact that Janet Michelle Smith was gone. As time went by, they learned ways to cope with this loss as they started a new chapter in their lives. They sought therapy and participated in different activities around the neighborhood. No more pain. No more suffering. A sea of grief was something they just had to live with once and for all. They never gave up on life. They did whatever they had to do in order to still live a fulfilled, but prosperous life. God has always been by their side of course. Like literally every day. All they did was thank him for listening to their prayers. They stood by each other's corner knowing that they gained a guardian angel who was watching over them. Sky's the limit. Grief may be painful, but it's normal. Living a happy life was something they developed over the years. Be A Disciple Note to Self: Mercedes Gonzalez has been motivated and empowered by messages about love, sacrifice, praise, and faith. She made the choice to discuss topics like purity, impurity, resurrection, sin, moving mountains, discipleship, light/darkness and baptism. By listening to other Disciples speak about the word of God, Mercedes felt respected and inspired by all the positive energy surrounding her. Most of the women smiled, chuckled and shook her hand firmly as soon as they saw her. She greeted them back before she could introduce herself. This reminded her of the time when she saw actress Issa Rae speaking at a ballroom regarding womanhood. The things that she mentioned was helping Mercedes with her purity and image. As long as she obeys the Lord, she will continue to be part of God's kingdom. In front of the ladies, she stood tall and called them "beautiful disciples." Referring to Victoria Osteen's books Hope for Today Bible, Exceptional You! and Love Your Life: Living Happy, Healthy & Whole, Mercedes was able to relate to Joyce Meyer's words of wisdom and positivity. She was also impacted by Raphael B. Johnson's speech. His speech has propelled her to live life the right way and to push beyond her limits. You may have seen him on the Maury show, but he is passionate about teenagers and adults saving other people's lives. Her sister, Reginae has always told her this: Be a disciple. Treat each other the same. Go out there and make more Disciples. Wash your sins away. Know when you need to repent if possible. Love all of your brothers and sisters. Praise the Lord. Be different. Listen and abide by the truth. Challenge yourself. Get to know God. Put on the armor of God. Walk your faith with God. Be a disciple. Be a warrior. Be a leader. We're all God's children. Donate and give back in honor of God. Read the Bible everyday. Pray as you wake up, eat, exercise and sleep. It doesn't matter where you are. You must pray and see how God responds. Rejoice in the Lord. Love God with all of your heart. Express yourself freely. Get to know Jesus Christ and why he died on the cross for us. Talk to God. Allow God to answer your prayers. Last but not least, be a disciple, follow God's commandments, love one another and embrace each other. Let go and let God! Be a Disciple and never give up hope that you can teach another disciple of what you learned. Invite others to study the Bible with you. Jesus is Lord! There's A Will & Way Shamaya is her mother's second child. Her mother Tasha was 21 when she gave birth to Shamaya. Shamaya is her dad Reginald's third child. After she was brought into the world, Reginald had cut the umbilical cord. Nurses came to the room before Shamaya pushed the baby out of her vagina. Doctors had brung towels to wipe and clean the baby. Her parents were in the delivery room ready to take Shamaya home. As a toddler, it hasn't always been easy to take care of Shamaya. At one point, she had an ear infection and spots on her face. She brought Neutrogena and Proactive in order to clear it up. Tasha used to live in different foster homes. She reunited with her mother Stacy when she was 17 years old. She helped Tasha take care of her first child, Tiara. Tasha was only 19 years of age when she gave birth to Shamaya. They had tons of baby supplies left in their household. Tasha had got discharged. Reginald was holding the baby until they got in the car. They had Shamaya sit in the stroller on the back seat. Shamaya was asleep while they were driving. She was given milk as soon as she got home. Tasha took Shamaya a shower before she wore baby clothes that they received from their baby shower prior to their birth. She stayed in her room. When she got older, her mother took her to school. She got back home at 2 PM. She woke up at 6 AM. Once her mother had got a position at a facility, she wanted to request a school bus driver to pick them up from home. During the day, her dad Reginald went to work at a bar restaurant in order to provide for his family. Tasha and her mom were feeding and bathing Shamaya. Once it was night time, she left her children with Reginald while she was going to work at a facility. Shamaya and Tiara would sit on a sofa watching Meet the Browns after a few hours of doing their homework. If they needed help, then they would ask Reginald or any of their neighbors for assistance. Reginald would remind them to eat dinner on the table before they dozed off and took a shower. They would watch YouTube videos of Stevie Jo after they both finished taking a shower. Once 9 PM hit, they went to bed and prayed before their beauty sleep. Reginald would come by their bedrooms to see if they were actually sleeping. He closed their door and went back home at 4:30 AM. She would wake her daughters up at 5:30 or 6 AM to eat breakfast, shower and get dressed. She drove them to school, but then she picked them again in the afternoon. It wasn't until they were in college that she agreed for them to live on campus. Shamaya attended University of Miami, while Tiara attended Barry University before transferring to Florida Memorial University a year later. They set their alarms at night before it rang in the morning. Shamaya's earliest class was at 10 AM, but Tiara's earliest class was at 9 AM. While they were in high school, Tasha taught them how to cook, clean, iron and do their laundry. Their mother called them daily while they were away. She suggested that her girls seek employment, so they did. Tiara worked at Pollo Tropical, but Shamaya worked at Dollar Tree. Shamaya worked as an assistant at the financial aid office a year later. If their mom didn't have the time to go see them on campus, then they would do a video chat with their parents through Zoom. They always found a way to do things that would occupy their time whenever they weren't focused on their studies. If they couldn't figure something out, then someone else would do so. They would have them covered. Life didn't have to be a puzzle for them. They were the type of woman that wanted everything to be solved. If they needed anything, they would ask her before she scheduled a visit to come by their dorms. Sometimes they would ask one of their roommates to borrow something that they had for a moment. They gave it back when they were done. She recommended Tiara and Shamaya to hit the gym and work out 60 minutes a day. They would sometimes bring their roommates food that they or their mother cooked especially when they were sick or exhausted from school, work or long periods of time doing exercise. Their roommates would do the exact same thing for them in return. If there was any food that they liked that they couldn't cook, their mother would show them how as soon as they went home for winter or spring break. They would also watch cooking shows on their cellphones. Family is family. People can figure things out for themselves. It doesn't have to be big or small as long as they have the support they need. Doing things on their own was never an issue for any of them. If there's a Will, then there's a Way. You must discover yourself along the process. Nothing on earth is free. We all have gone through senseless things that don't become a part of us anymore. We just need to bring out our inner world. No one said life would be easy. There's a will and way on this Earth. Don't be surprised at what the outcome may be. Nothing can get away with our shine. Breakthroughs just become a part of our reality. Meet Christina In the future, Christina plans to become a supermodel and a news reporter. However, she has gained about thirty pounds within the past three months. She started thinking to herself that maybe it is because she is not eating healthy. When she looks at herself in the mirror, she notices that a bikini that she was wearing did not fit her. She took it off and decided to sell it to other girls who needed a bikini. She has been putting on jewelry, makeup and trying to have a perfect body as a way to impress her crush Nathan. She does not think Nathan likes big girls. She knows that he also idolizes females who are smart and confident so she makes sure she has the perfect walk every time he’s around. Her insecurities might blow her chance of getting to know him. She hopes that one day he sees her behind all of that makeup and styled outfit and talks to her. She sees who Nathan talks to so when he is not around, she walks up to them and asks them how much they know him. One of the girls whose name is Sharice asked her why. Christina comes up with a lie saying that her sister wants to work with Nathan but is afraid to speak to him. “But Nathan is so nice, he does not bite,” Sharice said. “I know, but she does not know him that well,” Christina said. “Well, he can get to know him. It’s not hard.” “It’s not easy for her to open up so fast.” “There are plenty of people that she can talk and meet with, not just Nathan.” “You are right.” “I hope she knows that. Like, is there something special that she likes about him?” “What is there not to like about Nathan? He’s pretty awesome.” “He must be that special.” “He is indeed.” Sharice starts to hint why Christina is giving Nathan all of these compliments. “What’s your sister's name?” “Amanda.” “You should get her to speak with us and we’ll introduce her to him.” “Do any of you got his contact information?” “Sure, I can give you his number to give to her.” “That’s great!” Christina opens up her notepad really quickly with a huge grin on her face as she grabs her pen and writes down his number. “Here!” “Thanks.” “My pleasure!” She plans on auditioning for a fashion show, but she is afraid that she won’t be able to make it since she gained a lot of weight. She is trying to see if she could wear some clothing that won’t show how big she has become. She knows that earning good grades is what’s important right now. Her mother, Annabelle, tells her to do well in school, exercise, and not to eat food with fats or sugar. “Mom, what do I do about this weight?” “Work out.” “I am not sure about that. I am already big.” “Sweetie, working out creates good results. You’ll see for yourself.” “Okay, if you say so.” “You’ll never know unless you try.” Her sister, Amanda encourages her to just focus on her education for now. “I do not like people seeing me like this in school,” Christina said. “It does not have to stay that way.” “It’s easy for you to say.” “You can change that I promise.” “Yes. just try it”, her mother said. “You could do it while you’re in school too, Amanda said.” “What if Nathan sees me?” “So what! It does not hurt to try.” She does not need to keep her eyes on Nathan when she has other things she is worrying about. “Alright, I’ll do it.” “That’s the spirit. I’m so happy for you”, her mother said. “Me too, you’ll see major changes,” Amanda said. She then calls her best friend, Crystal and she advises her not to stress so much about the fashion show. “I understand you want to look your best at the fashion show, but you can wait on it.” “How about you come work out with me and my sister Amanda?” “Sure.” “I’ll ask her to join us.” She called Amanda loudly until her sister came up standing close to her. “Yes!” “Can you come work out with Crystal and I?” “Sure, When?” All three of them came to an agreement and thought that Wednesday and Friday would be a great day for them. “Wait, didn’t your father Andy not want you to go to the fashion show?” Crystal asked. “No, he does not but I do not care what he thinks.” “Yes, you do what you want.” “Exactly, I’m old enough to do what pleases me.” The next day, Christina, Crystal and Amanda got ready to go to the gym. They all had on a black shirt and shorts or long pants to wear. They went straight to the treadmill. After getting on the treadmill, they grabbed a ball and a rope. They jumped rope for about thirty five minutes. Then, they went on the savesaver machine for an hour and a half listening to music. As they felt their legs on the machine, the sweatier they noticed that they were getting. Christina had to take a little break almost every five minutes to drink water before she got back on the machine. Once she was exhausted, she waited for Crystal and Amanda to get off so they could take a breather. They walked around and were about to run around the track but they couldn’t at the moment. Too much sweat was coming off their arms. They went to the bathroom and grabbed a towel out of their bags to swipe off all the sweat that was on them. They looked around and were thinking about taking a quick shower but thought it would be better to do so when they get back home. After fifty minutes, they got out of the bathroom and went upstairs to the track field. They started walking and then some pushups before they began to run around the field. Once they ran around the field, they picked a bottle of water. They hang a towel around their pants when they get so sweaty out of running. Christina went to the fountain to get some water each time her bottle got empty. A few weeks after they went to the gym to workout, Amanda and Crystal were talking to Christina about being in a fashion show. Christina then started to bring up Nathan’s name out of nowhere and started smiling with a shy look on her face. She started to gaze away while Crystal and Amanda looked at her in confusion. “What’s the matter, Christy?” “Nothing much.” “It sure looks like you’re thinking so much about Nathan.” “No, I am not.” “Then why are you making this face?” “I don’t know how to get him to notice me.” “Just talk to him.” “I don’t if that’s a good idea.” “We can get him to talk to you.” “Yeah, sure thing.” “Stop being afraid, there’s no need to.” “If you say so.” “Look, just be yourself and he’ll notice you.” “Yes, um sure he will,” Christina says with sarcasm. Christina started discussing what she was planning to wear for the fashion show. She noticed a little change in her weight and stepped on the scale and noticed she was 170 pounds. Now, she weighs 159 pounds. She tried on an attire until she found the perfect match. When she did, she showed her attire to her sister, Amanda. She had let Amanda know that she told Nathan’s friends that she told them that she had a crush on her. “How could you?” “I know. I didn’t want them to know yet that I like him.” “They should have known that you were lying.” “I thought they would have figured that too.” “I mean, you kept bringing his name like you liked him.” “I don’t know him too well, though.” “Exactly, you don’t know him that well to talk about him so much.” “You are right about that.” “If I talk to them, I will let them know that you’re the one who likes Nathan.” “Please don’t do it.” “Yes, I will since you want to not tell them the truth.” “Nooo!” “Yes, let them know yourself. What are you afraid of?” “I am not afraid.” “Then, why you mention my name for and not yours?” “They will know eventually.” “See, you did not answer my question.” “Okay, and talking to crushes is not easy.” “Please, if you can mention my name, then it should not be hard to talk to him.” “If you say so.” “Come on, what are you scared of? It’s not like he will ignore you.” “How do you know that?” “I know, look next time you see Nathan go and talk to him. It’s not hard. Don’t be a cat.” “Amanda, I am not a cat okay. How dare you call me that.” After she picked out her outfit and showed it to her sister, she placed it in the closet. Since her outfit was neat, she did not need to go to the dry cleaning place to fix anything. She had a bag covered over it just in time for the day of the fashion show. In the meantime, she thought about what type of news she can write about the fashion show after it arrives. The following weeks, she came to the fashion show ready to walk the runway. When she walked out on the runway, she saw Nathan with the side of her eyes. However, she tried to face her head in a different direction so that he did not notice her staring at him. She wanted to hide her smile when she saw him, but decided to focus on the runway instead. Amanda, Crystal and the rest of her family and her friends were there to support her. They were standing up clapping their hands with utter joy filled with their heart. "Go Christy! Amanda screamed. "Yes, kill it girl!" Crystal chanted. Christina was shaking her hips towards the end of the runway. At the end of the runway, she came by and came to sit next to her friend Ashley. Then, she came by to talk to her sister and Crystal. "You did great on stage," Amanda and Crystal said together. "Thank you!" "Um, Em, there goes you know who." "Who?" "You know who I am talking about.. "Nathan?" "Yes, who else would I be talking about?" Christina started to put her hands on her face and look away. "Oh, my gosh. You had to mention him." "So, are you going to talk to him or no?" "Mhm." "He's right there." "Girl, you're something else." " I saw him staring at you on the runway. I bet he was impressed." "I mean, of course he was.Why wouldn't he?" "Go talk to him, girl. This is your chance." Christina started to scuttle. One moment, she was about to walk up to Nathan to talk to him but her nerves was shaking so much that she grabbed a chair to sit on for a second. Amanda walked up to Nathan herself and asked Nathan to com9e talk to her and Christina. Nathan saw Christina sitting down. "Hey, Christina" "Hi, Nathan. How's it going?" "Enjoying myself. How did you like the fashion show?" "I loved it. It was fire." "I hear you." "I saw that you were walking my way, but hesitated." "No worries, I was just freezing." "Oh, I understand." "How did you like my outfit?" "It looks really beautiful." "Thank you, I like it too." For a second, Amanda came in to grab Christina by the hand. "If you don't excuse, Nat, I'll talk to her for a brief moment." "Go ahead," Nathan said patiently. "Mhmm, so what do you think?" "He is really nice." "Did you tell him you like him?" "No, why would I? I just met him." "At least you guys are talking for now." Christina walked back slowly to speak with Nathan. She asked Nathan to speak with her. Out of nowhere, Nathan brought up something about Amanda. "What is it?" "I heard that she likes me." "Who told you that?" Christina said chuckling. "Her friends." "And you listen to them?" "I don't know if it's true." "I am not sure. She does not look like she does." Christina once again starts to hide her face. Before she can tell Nathan the truth, she put her head down for a few minutes. "What's wrong? Are you thinking about something?" "No, I am fine." Christina began to sit closer to Nathan but her shoulders started to spread apart from each other as she turned her head before looking Nathan's way. "She does not like you." "How do you know?" "She never told me." "Maybe she does not want me to know." "If she liked you, I would know." "So, who do you like?" Nathan asked. Christina looked the other way and got up. Her face started to get red. Her eyes began to shimmer. She shrugged her shoulders. Her legs were tumbling. Her heart started pouncing. Nathan just sat there and then got up before he asked her if she was okay. "Yes, I'm fine." "I hope so." "What do you mean?" "Your reactions." Christina came and grabbed her sister Amanda by the hand this time. She starts to tell her about what Nathan asked her. "You should have known." "I didn't know he would have asked." "Why don't you be honest?" "He thinks you like him." "Do you want me to go over there and tell him myself?" "No, not yet." "I think I should." "He asked who I like. I didn't know what to say." "Is that why you were having a heart attack?" "Be quiet!" Christina them went to the fountain to drink some water. While she drank water, Amanda came to talk to Nathan before Christina came back. "Hey Nathan." "Hey, where's Christina?" "She's getting a glass of water." "Oh, I thought I lost her." "You seem like you care about her." "I do, but can I ask you something?" "What is it?" "Are you crushing on me?" Amanda stared at Nathan and blinked her eyes twice. "What? I don't understand. Did she tell you that?" "No, I was just asking." "Alright." "I wanted to let you know that your sister is starting to act strange around me." "How so?" "I asked her one question and she just bounced." "I forgot to answer your question, I don't like you." "Okay, I was just checking." "You should ask her if she does, not me." "What are you trying to say?" "Nothing." "Are you sure?" "Yes, she likes the company that she keeps." "Oh, I see." "May I be honest with you?" "Sure." "Truth is that she really likes you." "Really?" "Yes!" "That explains why she disappeared for this long." "Do you like her?" "I can't say I do, I just met her." "Please, I saw you guys sitting close to each other." "That does not mean anything." "Sure, it doesn't." "She does not need to be shy. It's cool." "So, what do you think of her now?" "I think she's awesome and I don't mind her talking to me." "If she comes back, please don't make things awkward for her." "She already did." "Don't make things more weird than they already are." "I feel you." Amanda had brought Christina over. When she saw Nathan, she was ready to walk away again. Instead, she had held her. "Relax, it's going to be okay." Nathan looked at them as if they were dumbfounded. "Nooo." Christina seem as if she was going to spit water on the floor, but she remained. "He already knows that you like him." "How does he know?" "I told him." "Why did you?" "You can still talk to him." "What if he thinks I looked my best just to impress him?" "It doesn't matter." "You shouldn't have done that." "You either." "So, now we're even huh?" "Tell me something I don't know." "Whatever." Christina ended up having the courage to walk up to Nathan moments later and started asking him what they were speaking about. They then resumed talking about their future plans. They decided to stay friends and Nathan had let Christina know that she did not need to feel awkward about anything. Christina offered to give Nathan a warm hug. He accepted it and then gave Christina a high five. About a month after they both met, Christina went to WLRN and started to feature a news story about her fashion show, the importance of weight and what it feels like to be insecure. Along with her sister, Amanda, they grabbed an audio and included the most important parts. They waited two weeks for the story to broadcast on air. They planned to do a radio show and decided that Nathan should be part of it. His friends would support everything that Nathan, especially since Christina had already met them before. Christina started to wonder if they knew she was the one who liked Nathan after all. Either way, they were able to develop a good friendship thanks to Amanda. They planned a day to do a radio show and then went to get a couple of drinks together. When they had drinks together, they reminisced all of the moments they shared at the radio show and what they were going to do next as the days goes forward. |
ESSAY WRITING
A Day That Changed My Life That same month, I had a welcome appointment with the Access Consultant, Joanna Lindsay, who had a brief discussion about what the accommodations were for the DRC. She advised me to get the forms from their office and give them to the professors to sign. I was notified that I needed to return those forms to the DRC a week before taking my exams there. Once they put the day of my scheduled exams in the system, then I would not have to worry about going to class on that particular day. I was also asked to get tested for psychological testing at the Biscayne Bay Campus, but it was $300!!! “Why are they making me pay all this money? I thought they were supposed to be helping me,” I said to myself. I thought, “Ummmm, I don’t know why I’m doing this. What am I going to get outta this?” Anyways, Joanna registered me with the Disability Resource Center the next day after my meeting with her. In an email, Ms. Lindsay wrote, “We realize the testing pricing might be difficult to consider, but the benefits would offer you the ability to receive support from vocational rehabilitation.” “Omg, tell me something I don’t know.” was all I could think of after reading her email. . FLASH FICTION The Murder of a Little Boy Jake was fueled with bursting energy--his fists were clenched. His face was covered with tears when he heard about his childhood friend Charlie committing suicide. He did not think he would be able to get through this moment. It was Jake’s brother, Danny, who revealed the news as his eyes teared up with sudden emotion. For a second, he could not wrap around his head that his friend was gone forever. Jake did not think that he would be able to sleep at night. Danny gave his brother a pat on the back and showed him a video clip of people in school grabbing Charlie by the ear and leading him into the locker room. When Charlie got out of the locker room, he was screaming for mercy. He walked in the hallways and saw three guys wearing a long leather jacket with a slight smirk on their faces. FICTION There Goes The Trash Instead, she kicked the door a few times as if she was about to break it down and slam it. On Mondays, she took out the trash and immediately threw it in the dumpster during the day. Since she could not take the smell, she had a disgusted look on her face. After she finished tossed the trash into he dumpster, she washed her hands with bar soap. On Tuesdays, she watered the plants in her backyard. It’s like she felt a splash of water pouring all her thoughts away when she poured water on the plants. On Fridays, she went to the laundry room, which was two feet away from her house. She did not have to listen to any of her siblings nagging, screaming, and leaving their underwear on the floor. On Saturdays, she folded and ironed everyone clothes. Gone Missing Nicole has not seen her brother, Tony in two weeks. She thought he was missing since her and her family didn't know where he was. She called his friends on the phone. They told Nicole that he wasn't with them. Knowing that he was at a friend's house a few days ago before he disappeared, they came up with a plan to pass flyers and posters around the neighborhood. For a second, Nicole's mom, Dora were having a drop of tears flow all over her face. Thoughts were drumming in her head. She started to think that he was dead. She dialed Tony's number, but it was sent to voicemail. Little did they know that Tony was lost. He was also kidnapped and had to stay at the kidnapper Brian's house or else he would be dead. Tony was tied up but was ready to escape. He lived about 110 miles away from his actual home. When Brian was not in Tony's sight, Tony would get his phone out of his pocket to call his sister and mom to pick him up where he was. Instead, he called the police and told them what happened. He wondered how he was going to be able to get out without Brian seeing him. The police officers came thirty minutes later and he opened the door. He described who he was. Brian was in the bathroom so he had no idea that the polices came. The police was waiting to see Brian. Brian did not bother coming. However, he looked out the window and saw Tony outside with policemen. The police decided to take him home. Tony had no idea that his face was shown on a flyer until he was close to getting home. That's when he saw them. By the time he arrived, the policemen got up and knocked on the door. His mom got up and opened the door. They notice the police coming by. Her son, Tony getting out of the car and walking up to hug his mother. She hugged so tight that she wasn't ready to let him go. The police officers mentioned that they were all going to get some of the flyers off the street. Luckily, he was okay and did not have to appear on the Maury show as a lost child. He was safe and sound. CREATIVE NONFICTION How to Get Ready for Senior Prom I got to the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables and it looked beautiful: a venue with pearls as wide as a sky decorating the windows and high ceilings which stretched above my head. I walked inside a restaurant and I saw tables set with scrumptious eggs, bacon, lettuce, cornbread, apple and cranberry juice. I was eating and the thought of prom continued to pop up in my mind. There were guest speakers talking as everyone took a seat and ate their meal. I thought to myself Hmm? Why are they here talking? Did we come hear to get glammed up or to listen to people talk all day? Moya McFarlane, my consultant, a soft-spoken woman with good posture and elegant voice, who sat right next to me was looking at our schedule for the day. I asked myself: Is she just as excited as I am? Or Is she? We were done eating breakfast and then I rushed out of my seat like this was the only time I was going to have a moment like this. I could not help, but run upstairs and try as many as I could. All I could think was I want to get my dress already. I wanted to find a dress that would fit me perfectly. I entered the store and noticed that there were a lot of dresses to choose from. My eyes were glancing all over the place. I was like Wow! It felt like I was living a fantasy when I saw a closet filled with perfect jewelry, accessories, shoes, and dresses all in one. Each time I saw a dress I liked, I went to the dressing room and put them on. There is one thing to keep in mind: Don’t be afraid to ask someone to help you find the prom dress that you are looking for. Make sure you tell the store manager what kind of dresses that you like. I found a white dress with a slash of baby blue. I thought: This is the dress that I want. I looked at myself in the mirror and shook my hips as if the day could not get any longer. But, then I started to notice how much my back was showing. Massive Headache Expecting that she would give me a pass, I walked out of the lab with my head down in shame. Everyone was literally just sitting there thinking: What is going to be asked on the exam? Is it going to be hard or easy? It better not be too hard. I was in danger of not passing the class already, so I needed to ace the final exam. My head was spinning like a roller coaster just thinking about it. There was no other way. I got this! Hoping that she would say something like, “Oh no dear, that’s horrible you need to go ahead and rest. You can take it another day” However, I was sadly mistaken. It seemed as if she was telling me to take a chill pill and get something for the headache. I was like What, how am I going to chill with a migraine? Is she crazy? “I’m sorry, all the other days are already booked for a final exam at the Math Lab. I suggest you get an Advil or something,” Roneet said. In my head, I paused and asked myself: What do I do? What is she gonna do about it? “What’s the matter?” she said. Student Support Services During my first semester as a Golden Scholar at FIU, I went to an orientation for the Student Support Services program. The minute I heard about SSS, I knew that I was going to benefit a lot from it. I was willing to become an active SSS participant. I couldn't wait to see what they would offer. I was feeling like I wanted to dance in a private room. That's how excited I was. I knew that SSSP was going to be something I needed throughout my tenure at FIU. SSS made my transition and classes a lot easier. I passed by the SSSP office during my second semester. Dr. Cruz came up to me and started to have advising sessions with her. At that moment, I knew that I was accepted to the program. I was like yes I can't wait to see what opportunities I will get out of this. I an so lucky. Yay! When meeting with Dr. Cruz, she gave me details about the program. I learned that the SSS program provides opportunities for academic development, and motivates students towards their goal of earning a bachelor's degree. I was like yes this program is for me. I had no doubt that this program was going to help me be successful in college but it did. In SSSP, I could tell that I was going to attain a support system. The program also offered information about financial aid, career and academic seminars, career counseling, tutoring, and financial stipends. For the following semesters being on the program, I attended events and workshops that met my needs. For instance, I learned about email etiquette, professional communication, and habits of effective college students. I had the SSS tutors the help me review different concepts and revise or critique my papers. Through SSS, I obtained a stipend. I used the computer and printed my work when I needed to. Dr. Cruz spoke to me about my wellbeing, resumes, involvements, scholarship opportunities and advice about my passion for the degree I was pursuing. She made sure that I was on track whether it was going to Career Services, volunteering, looking for a job or internship, preparing for interviews and ways to manage my time with my classes. The SSS tutors taught me public speaking, chemistry, excel, resumes and cover letters. I was able to get new shoes and jackets around the time my mom passed away thanks to the SSS program staff. Because of SSS, I didn't have to pay to be in the Academy of Leaders (AOL) program. I also attended National TRIO Day in 2018 in behalf of SSS. There were panels where students talked about their college experience and SSS impacted their lives. My grades improved due to the tutorial services they provided. Classes were made easy because of SSS. I received the SSS Success Story award twice. I was a historian for Student Support Services Club. I also had a mentor from SSS who helped me reach my goals. I accomplished so much because of SSS. I couldn't be more blessed. I had a good time being in the SSS program for about four years. I was like yes SSS change my life. I will always hold SSS to my heart. Class over Breaktime While Samantha was on break, she noticed two of her classmates, Sasha and Amanda walking outside. They were playing with cats by the library. They went to drink water for a second. The cats were still there. Samantha walked up by the stairs. She saw her professor, Dr. Daniels standing by the stairs. She saw her professor, Dr. Daniels standing by a student she had from another class. For a minute, she stood still and thought about if she wanted to go to class or not. She did not want her professor to think that she was skipping class, so she walked up the stairs to go to the classroom. Most of her classmates were by the door waiting to get back in. Since she was coming from class, she decided to go inside and put her head down on the desk. POETRY Infidelity Sometimes you have to face the truth in order to go through the toughest milestones in life God never said that life would be easy. We’re not perfect. By knowing who you are A symbol of peace and desire for freedom Lack of integrity, A train, a splash of lies running down the drain Here you are preparing for the worst, while praying for the best. Introducing yourself like an angel as a goddess or another deity defined by your satisfaction The meaning of the word, happiness will come your way as the dim light sparks between your eyes The flares of the sun will shine on your face no matter where you are You must humble yourself and let the universe see you for what you are. You may not know how far the planet Earth will take you I rest my case The cure for hurting is the mending of a broken soul. There is always hope that You will find happiness, You don’t want anyone to ruin the dimples that You have poignant on your face. And, yes, there’s always Something that can take all that happiness away but there is always something that will not hold us back From doing what we envisioned for ourselves. Mother Nature Here we all are surrounded by the beautiful green trees we feel the breeze on the ground over there is a vibrant of colors touching the atmosphere outside there goes a day barking the gates are open People wonder if it will stay still or bite for God sake it ain't nothing like mother nature bring mother nature bring cats around me later we will have something on to cater we may follow the nature of God the beautiful nature that we could only be blessed John says, "Through him all things we're made" or "but ask the animals and they will teach the birds in the sky and they'll tell you or speak to the earth." In nature we were made by birth. Portrait poem I'm going to frame Marie Dieuvelie Chamblain in front of a black board on the top right of the black wall in my house If you see her, You would think that she's me. She's a beautiful angel who was ready to fly before God called her home to the house of the Lord. My name They call me Belle That's not my name In life we play Fair and square That's the role Of the game We're all hustlers In our own way But Belle-yes That's my nickname With my cousin Jude gone Things won't be the same Call me Marie instead Yes In case you wonder That's my name.. Life Well-Spent Poem Life's a beach I’m just playing in the sand I don’t know what it’s like being in a land Knowing more about God in the Bible Is not too hard to understand I got my hair done in braids with a rubber band No matter what life throws at you You are better than you were yesterday Be grateful that you’re not a court Listening to different cases Everywhere we go We see a lot of beautiful faces. We are beautiful kind people With a genuine purpose Here at the beach We won’t be able to see if anything is on service All we see is a line of waves Be happy that God has blessed you today Each and everyday don’t go solo like You’ve never been hiking before Well unfortunately I haven’t In life there’s a lot to explore I stand above the ground No need to worry about seeing a bunch of clowns Seeing things like this in front of me won’t make me frown But the sky is falling down There is this hell-hole called Life We may not understand what is it But as long as we’re taking care of ourselves We won’t see life as a hidden pit I’m just playing in the sand Hoping that destiny will come my way Don’t ask for favors Nothing is better than getting your degree Marked on a sheet of paper Life is indeed a beach that won’t cross Or fold you. Life is about having fun being at the beach Being able to run as we lay down beneath the sun. Keyclubhouse Here we are at the keyclubhouse, No one wants to come here seeing things like mouse on the floor. Whether you want a job or not, here at the keyclubhouse we have a lot to explore. by coming to this organization we have so many people to adore just know that we are welcome with open doors every week we have to do a news letter if you are feeling depressed coming to the keyclubhouse will make you feel much better we are all here to fulfill our tasks staying in the keyclubhouse all year long will last we have people like Marie who types fast you don’t have to come here at the keyclubhouse with your feet on the grass by having so much to do you will see how much time pass. A Worldly Poem So many people out here in this cold world make such a deal out of everything. We all have to be a part of something. Let’s enjoy the rest of our lives. We could be outside, but lay down on the bench like we’re at a beach, before we see a tree full of beehives. We learn and have so much to teach others. It is nothing like eating a bread of jelly and butters. You educate others based on what you were taught. We must know how to act in a accordant manner. Do not say things in a word of slander. Treat yourself right and understand that we are very smart and bright. We stand alone here today in the light. We don’t have to be stage fright. It is going to be okay just like the ray of sunshine we feel as we walk. We have our mask on so it might not be easy to talk. Don’t be scared. God got you in a pair of blues. You may not know how far you’ll go, But in this life you have to live bold. Just know when you go to the restaurant, You don’t have to drink coca cola or sprite. In this world we must learn to be cordial and polite. Rejoice poem When you rejoice, you feel joy. Loving God is nothing like Playing with a toy. In life, we’re supposed to live Our best life and focus on things That we can enjoy. When you rejoice, you have to make your own decisions And tell people what your choice. Going to the key clubhouse to buy a favorite shirt or dress, All you need is a few coins. God loves us and he sure doesn’t want us to do anything That will disappoint. Life is an adventure. When we make babies, God decides whether the child will be a girl or boy. The hurricane are windy and looks for trees to destroy. When you rejoice, you feel joy and like yourself. It’s like putting a book on top of a shelf It’s nothing like thinking about a Christmas elf. When you rejoice, hear God’s name. Talk to God every day and you won’t be ashamed. When you rejoice, you feel joy. Moment of peace It’s a moment of silence where we gather together with peace with nothing underneath. We shall wait each year to have a holiday feast. We gather around people we trust. In God should we repent? we must. God loves us with all of his soul and knows that we’re trying to reach our goals. God wants us to have a piece of mind and gather all of our time. We don’t give up. We must have faith nothing like loving God and doing a debate. Let’s put our minds straight. I’m here to serve God not with lust but with all of his love, with all of his might but in God we trust. We all should love one another and hung on to each other tight. Let’s stick to what was said and eat our daily bread. Too Much Happening With all the gun violence rates that have went on all over the country We need justice. A lot of us enjoy our freedom. Nobody can take that away from us. Only God can judge. We may not like the way things are planned but this is life. In the Bible I see how Christian men want to obey everything that they need to and follow Christ. Everyone comes somewhere to unite. We all love one another like husband and wife. let’s please Gid we jump up and down with Jesus by our corner we don’t need to frown. In this world, there’s nothing new except what we buy, the day and year. At my baby cousin’s Aubrey’s 7th birthday party, everyone felt joy like they wanted to cheer. The Bible says that there was a feast for the Jews My dad came by the Keyclubhouse-to him this place feels new. Some people may not realize that everything said in the Bible is real. Life Measures Don’t be hiding in a cave. In life, we have to be brave. We don’t go around expecting Someone to treat us like a slave. We must behave. There’s a lot of contribution that I gave. In life, we pick and choose. Nobody likes to lose. But we all go to Footlocker to buy some incredible shoes. Sometimes we go out and look for a location. But we have no clue where it is. We all love to be on vacation. Lately, I’ve seen dreads on people’s head. I’m pretty sure there are lot of books. That my baby cousin Aubrey and Paris have read. Lots of people are catching the corona virus. People like Antoine don’t want it to be spread. In so many days like this, we all at some point Have been led. We may not know how much scammers try to trick us. But I’m a child of God, in God we trust. Let’s praise the days Like it’s our last. Look into the future and Forget about the past. We all have different things that we’ll believe. But getting close to God is such a relief. No walking Away Cats run away from dogs. Your glasses can be dirty with a fog. Read books like you're reading a catalog. I met a woman name Joyce who love listening to songs. No one likes being wrong. Watching Christian videos can be so long. No man like seeing thongs. We don't need luck. In this society, we must have confidence. Inorder to be successful, you must be persistent. At Missionary church, you hear nothing but silence. In life, we love to receive gifts. When you're working, you must pick your shift. In life, we deal with a lot of hardships. Elegant I am a woman with elegance. Strong and independent. I have so much persistence. But I get nervous to sing In front of an audience. Respect my obedience. Nothing is better than living life with perseverance. Life happens in a manner of sequence.
